From Cocoon to Cloth

The Process

Seven carefully crafted steps — from silk cocoon harvest in Northeast India to finished export-ready product.

Cocoon Collection
1

Cocoon Collection

Hand-harvested silk cocoons from sericulture farms across Northeast India — sorted by species, size and quality before processing begins.

Degumming
2

Degumming

Cocoons are boiled in water to remove the sericin gum layer, softening and separating the fine continuous silk filaments inside.

Sun Drying
3

Sun Drying

Degummed cocoons are spread on open trays and sun-dried in fresh air, preserving the filament integrity and natural lustre.

Spinning
4

Spinning

Dried filaments are drawn onto traditional reeling frames and spun into fine silk thread — tight, even and export-consistent.

Yarn
5

Yarn

Threads are twisted, plied and wound into export-grade silk yarn hanks — graded by count, species and form for buyers.

Weaving
6

Weaving

Yarn is loaded onto handlooms by skilled weavers and woven into fine silk fabric — producing textiles with traditional Northeast India character.

Product
7

Product

Finished silk becomes scarves, stoles, shawls and home textiles — export-ready with lot records, origin notes and buyer documentation.

Export Development

From rearing cluster
to buyer port.

SUTAAS is designed for buyers who need a professional bridge between rural sericulture and international procurement standards.

01

Requirement mapping

Count, form, end-use, country, testing, MOQ, Incoterms and target delivery window are fixed before sampling.

02

Sampling and lot plan

Reference skeins are dispatched with origin notes and provisional pricing. Commercial lots are reserved after approval.

03

QC and documentation

Each batch is checked for count, colour, form, moisture and buyer-specific test needs before export paperwork begins.

04

Dispatch and aftercare

Shipment documents, CoO, courier tracking and lot references are shared through a single trade desk.

Certifications and Compliance

Claims that can
survive customs.

Silk export compliance depends on exporter registration, shipment documents, origin proof, product claims and destination-market requirements. SUTAAS keeps those layers visible to buyers.

IEC from DGFT

Importer Exporter Code is the core business identification required for goods export from India unless specifically exempted.

RCMC via silk export council

Registration-cum-Membership Certificate validates the exporter with an authorised export promotion body. Silk exporters normally work with the Indian Silk Export Promotion Council.

Certificate of Origin

Preferential or non-preferential CoO is issued through the DGFT common digital platform or authorised agencies, depending on destination and trade agreement.

Shipment document pack

Commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill or bill of export, bill of lading or airway bill, insurance, and buyer-specific declarations.

GI authorised-user controls

Registered GI terms such as Muga Silk of Assam should be used only for eligible goods and authorised-user supply chains.

Purity and textile testing

Silk Mark, CSB-linked testing, Oeko-Tex, GOTS pathway documents, azo-free tests, REACH declarations, or fibre reports can be added when the buyer contract requires them.

Compliance note: buyer destination, HS classification, Incoterms and contract terms can change required certificates. The site language is written to avoid unsupported GI or sustainability claims.

Buyer Feedback

What buyers
say about us.

Feedback from procurement leads, sourcing managers and design studios who have sampled and ordered through SUTAAS.

“Lot consistency was the deciding factor for us. The count and moisture figures matched across three separate shipments. CoO and test reports were ready before we even asked.”
